Kenda’s Review of the iPhone

What an amazing piece of technology!!!  The iPhone, simply put, ROCKS!  As many of you know, I got an iPhone 3G a couple of weeks ago…I haven’t grown tired of it yet.  In fact, I can’t get enough of it.  Let’s Review:

The Good:

OMG!  There are so many good things to list but let’s start with the apparents…it’s slim, lightweight, a touchscreen and mine is white!!  So cool.  It’s totally an itty bitty pocket-sized computer.  There are only a few things an iPhone cannot do and I will list those later on in the post.  The iPhone is just that - a phone so let’s start with the review on the actual phone itself.  I can hear perfectly, the speakerphone rocks and getting in touch with anyone in my contact list is pretty simple as well.  The dialpad is big and easy to dial and it’s simple to go from one call to another.  You would have to have been under a rock for the past year and a half to not know the iPhone also has an iPod built into the apparatus.  This, my friend, is too cool.  If you haven’t seen an iPod Touch or an iPhone, the scrolling mechanism is just the neatest thing since sliced bread.  The camera simply rocks…check out the very first picture I took with my iPhone:

The iPod has the normal “stuff” most PDAs would have, including notepad, address book, calendar, calculator, text messaging, etc.  Aside from those, the applications that one can pick up from the Apps store are simply spellbinding.  (Yes, I said spellbinding!)  There are way too many to list but I will let you in on my favorites.  First of all, the one that really blows my mind is called Shazam.

Just like the ad says, you hold your iPhone up to the music (whether you be at a movie, in a store, in someone’s car, WHEREVER!) and this genius program will analyze the song and send you the title of the song…not only that, but it will tell you the artist and the album as well.  I played with it this morning and held it up to my laptop and started the song “A Murder of One” by the Counting Crows.  It recognized the song in just seconds…I was mystified!  (yes, I said mystified!)

Another app that keeps me entertained is the Facebook app for iPhone.  It’s so cool because I can keep up with my friends and send messages and even chat!!

And let us not forget Pandora for iPhone…too cool!  I can drive down the road and turn on Pandora and hook it up to my audio input in my car and I have a personalized radio!!  It’s so awesome.  If you haven’t gotten Pandora for your PC, go get it now!!

There are too many applications to list but when I run across another can’t-live-without app, I will be sure and let you know about it.  And now for…

The Bad:

Unfortunately, there is no way to take a picture and text it to someone.  I have to email the picture!!  That really blows but I can live without it, I guess.  There is no speed dial either and I really hate that because I could hold one letter down on my Blackberry and it would call that person assigned to that letter…I guess I can live without speed dial as well.

The Ugly:

Something I cannot live without is a battery!!  Let’s face it…this battery is beyond bad; it’s plain UGLY!!  My battery life is really, really bad.  At first, my battery was almost down by lunch but now that I have taken a few steps to increase the life, it’s better but still not great.  By lunch, I only have half a battery left and that’s without talking hardly at all.  I have to take a charger with me every where I go which also sucks.  How can Apple invent such an amazing phone and not make absolute sure the battery lasts at least a full working day???  I am hoping they will make some changes soon.

Even with a horrible battery life, RUN, DON’T WALK to your nearest AT&T store and get this little dude!!  He is my friend for life and I don’t know what I did without him before.  I love you little guy!!

Facing My Fears

If you have followed my blog in the past, you probably know one of my greatest fears is falling. Many people say they are afraid of heights. I can be thousands of feet up for hours at a time and not be afraid as long as I am protected and there is no chance of falling. Well, I checked into my hotel this past week to find I was staying in an atrium styled hotel. I stayed in room 916 - over 100 feet from the main floor of the hotel. I couldn’t believe it when I got off the elevator to find I could actually sleep walk right out of my door and fall to my death. I mean, there is a rail and all but it’s only chest high and what if I was dreaming I needed to get on top of that rail and jump??? So, on the last night of my stay, I decided to use my handy camera phone to take a picture of what was staring me in the face every morning and every evening. The first picture you see below was easy to take…I just had to stick the phone out in front of me and depress the button; however, the second image made my heart flutter and I even had to catch my breath after taking the picture. I had to point my phone towards the floor and that took all I had. I was terrified, truly terrifed!  After stepping back and heading into my room, I realized I had just risked my life.  And for what, my blog??  That’s insane.  I will never risk my life again for you people’s enjoyment.

Until next time…

My New Online Obsession

It has been so long since I have posted…as you may know, I have been in the DFW area training for the past week so I haven’t been taking many pictures.  I hope to change that soon.  I am not a big fan of taking pictures of my own children unless we are messing around; however, I need some practice so I may have to take them out somewhere tomorrow and make them pose for me.  We’ll see how that goes.  In the meantime, I must share with you this awesome website, Pandora.  It’s totally cool - go check it out when you get time.  Here is a screenshot of my favorite channels…what are yours??  (By the way, the Miley Cyrus channel is for my young daughter - although, I do have to admit I am really diggin’ her new stuff.)

Until next time…

New Blog

Why yet another blog??  I know, I know…for you people who have to update your Google Readers and your RSS feeds, this is a pain and I apologize.  There really is a reason behind all of this madness.  I was paying money every month to use Squarespace when I didn’t realize my website hosting company allows me to add a blog to my website for no additional charge.  Why pay the money if it isn’t necessary?  I mean, I have actually learned the value of a dollar over the last nine months.  And besides, doesn’t my new blog ROCK?  Jared over at ProPhoto is amazing.  I paid one small fee for this template he designed and then it’s free from here on out.  I just use WordPress as my blog host and if you know WordPress, you know they are similar to Blogger in the fact they don’t charge for posting with them.

Check out my flash header and if you will refresh your browser, you’ll see my bio picture changes every time.  Pretty cool, huh?  And while we are on the subject of bio pictures, how about those images of me taken by my ultra-cool and very talented photographer cousin, Jamie Pitman?  I think she did an amazing job and you really do need to go check out her great stuff.  I have had so much fun over the last several months discovering all of the pearls of photography and PhotoShop with Jamie - we talk or email at least once a day and its usually always centered around photography.  In my opinion, Jamie is going to be a very busy photographer soon…she has grown leaps and bounds in just the last couple of months.   And, did you notice my new logo?? I love my new logo designed by one of my very best friends, Mary Forey.  She said the little girl in my logo reminded her of me; how sweet!!  Mary is in marketing and lives in San Antonio but her real passion is graphic design. I love my new logo - she is so creative.  She also worked on my spacers that separate each post. I decided to go with a whole new branding as I wasn’t real fond of KD Photography. I think when people look up a certain photographer, they usually Google their whole name anyway. I follow many, many photographer’s blogs and most of them use their whole name as their business name. In my opinion, it’s easier for potential customers to remember. So, I am officially Kenda Davies Photography now. Oh yeah, and I need to give a shout out to Nazan over at Portfelia for the awesome background pattern I found on his website for FREE!  Gotta love free stuff.

I am really excited about this blog AND I got a new website also.  Well, it isn’t all new; it’s mainly a new design.  I like it much better and this website will make ordering for my customers so much easier as it has a shopping cart.  Go check it out when you get time.  If you are one of my regulars, you will probably find several pictures you have already seen and you might even find yourself, a loved one or a familiar face featured on my website.  Check it out!
I know, Blaze looks so unbelievably happy. Kellyn has always smiled for the camera! I think they are pretty cute with or without smiles but I am a little partial.

If you will keep scrolling down, you will notice I am slowly but surely adding my posts from my other photography blog to this new blog.  It will take me some time but I will try to bring over the majority of posts over here - if you don’t see yours, I am sure it will be here in time.  Pretty please drop me a line or leave a comment and let me know what you think about everything - I am sure Jamie and Mary would love to hear what you think as well. I know most of you choose not to comment but if you have a second, give me your thoughts. This has been a work in progress for some time now.

Until next time…
